< Back Alli Stokowski, LICSW Director of Clinical Care astokowski@safecoalitionma.org I am an LICSW, earning both my Bachelors and Masters Degrees in Social Work, though my initial tendency to navigate towards the role of “helper” began at a young age. My experiences thus far have entailed a variety of roles providing outreach and clinical services to individuals, groups and families across Massachusetts. My experience has allowed me to support some of the most vulnerable people including those with chronic physical and behavioral health concerns, those living in poverty, survivors of trauma and intimate partner violence as well as those with co-occurring substances use disorders. I also provided families and their children with clinical support while navigating the anxiety, fear, isolation and associated impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic. I often work closely with school systems, medical providers, DCF, DMH and other community organizations. I recently established a private practice providing psychotherapy to individuals, where I utilize a combination of psychodynamic, CBT and solution-focused counseling to help my clients navigate the stressors of our daily lives. My approach is often rooted in identifying the ineffective boundaries in our interpersonal relationships that lead to increased anxiety, anger and other suffering. I provide evidence-based treatment and strive to convey empathy and compassion to my patients. I enjoy traveling, cooking (mostly eating), any sort of live music and especially working on jigsaw puzzles!

Narcan is a nasal spray used to revive someone during an overdose from opioid pain medications like oxycodone and Fentanyl, and street drugs like heroin. Taking a high dose or combining opioids with other substances can lead to overdose, which can be life threatening. Attend SAFE Narcan training to learn how to administer this life-saving medication, open to the public and no registration required. < Back Lindsay Semas Member Lindsay Semas brings a strategic skill set to the SAFE Board of Directors. She is a passionate problem solver, driven by efficiency and effectiveness. She has a strong background in strategy, financial management, building and scaling teams, and driving results for small and mid-sized growth companies. She currently serves as the Vice President of Strategy & Corporate Development at Interactions, LLC. A conversational artificial intelligence company located in Franklin. Lindsay is the founding leader of the Women’s Leadership Group at Interactions and is an active member of the company’s Diversity, Equity & Inclusion Committee. She holds a MBA and BA in Accounting from Salve Regina University. She is a member of the University’s Athletic Hall of Fame where she has been recognized for her outstanding achievements and leadership as a member of the women’s basketball team. Lindsay was drawn to the SAFE Coalition because she appreciates the value of quality education and support during difficult times. Such services have made a significant difference in her life when dealing with post-partum depression/anxiety and family experiences with substance use. Lindsay resides in Norfolk with her husband John and children Audrey and Gus.

They have 15 years of experience in the fields of education, healthcare, and community based mental health/ substance use prevention services. Oomiya specializes in developing culturally conscious, trauma informed, equity centered programming that speaks to the emergent needs of the community. Oomiya's workshops deepen connections and stregthen communities through vulnerable and courageous conversations about gender and sexuality. Oomiya believes in the power of authenticity in our ability to thrive as individuals and as a community. She is a life long learner, and loves to try new experiences and meet new people.

< Back 12-Step Beginners Workshop For family members of someone struggling with substance use disorder and/or mental health challenges, this "Beginners Workshop" is designed to give attendees an overview of the 12 steps and how they may be applied to your life. About the Program: The 12 Steps are commonly used in support programs for family members and loved ones of those impacted by substance misuse and/or mental health challenges (e.g., Al-Anon, Families Anonymous). These 12 Steps provide a guide for healing from patterns of behavior, such as codependency, which are common among family members and loved ones. Codependency often leads to feelings of fear, anxiety, anger, and isolation. If left unaddressed, these emotions can cause major disruptions both for individual family members and the family dynamic as a whole. SAFE offers two-tiered programming for municipalities on how to use Opioid Abatement Funds in Massachusetts. Opioid Abatement Programming for Municipalities SAFE offers two-tiered programming to support municipalities in their Opioid Abatement Funds spending. Tier 1: 90-day Community Engagement Assessment The 90-day Community Engagement Assessment offers a view of the current impacts of the opioid epidemic in your town and helps us to evaluate the readiness of residents and town leadership in implementing opioid abatement fund-related programming. This assessment includes Community survey: Our team will develop an online community survey that is specific to your town’s needs and concerns Stakeholder listening session: SAFE staff will engage all key stakeholders in your town, including police & fire chiefs, public health officials and town leadership to understand the needs of the residents. Community listening sessions: SAFE staff will facilitate up to three community listening sessions to gather direct feed back from residents about opioid funds utilization. Comprehensive Report with Data-Informed Recommendations: SAFE will provide a comprehensive report of survey & listening session results. We also provide recommendations for the town based on the results of the assessment. Tier 2: Comprehensive Opioid Use Prevention and Treatment Programming SAFE offers programming that aligns with all seven strategies established in the state’s Municipal Use of Abatement Funds. All of these services are provided at zero-cost to community members. Programming options include Opioid use disorder treatment Coordination of referrals and resources through existing partnerships with Wayside Youth & Family Support Network, Turning Point Recovery Support Center, Learn to Cope, Hockomock Area YMCA, and Norfolk County Sheriff’s Office Completion of intakes with individuals in crisis and referrals directly to the most appropriate agency. Support for people in treatment and recovery Grief counseling for families affected by opioid use disorder and 90-day support plan development to provide immediate support and care during times of crisis (e.g., overdose in the family, family member leaves for residential treatment, or family member engaged in Section 35 commitment) Connections to care Up in Smoke - A teen substance use suspension diversion program available to high school students Families Anonymous - A 12-step program for family members impacted by their loved one's substance use or mental health concerns. SAFE presence at community events Harm reduction Biannual medication take-back events, for which SAFE is independently licensed Monthly Narcan trainings and distribution in your community Restorative justice SAFE staff develops 90-day wraparound support plans for individuals referred to us, including those who are involved with or recently released from the criminal- justice system. Support for pregnant and parenting women and their families Postpartum Support Group is open to all pregnant and postpartum community members, including those with mental health and/or substance use concerns. Community diaper bank Preventative education of opioid misuse Partnership with Why Try, a 10-week evidence-based social-emotional education program for high school students, and can launch the program in your town. Peer-to-Peer program, which serves teens in recovery using WhyTry and WRAP (Wellness Recovery Action Plan). Hidden in Plain Sight - an interactive display that educates parents on signs of drug use and/or mental health concerns in their children.

Up Next Predatory Relationships in the Suburbs This month's session, “Predatory Relationships in the Suburbs,” examines how predators exploit young people's trust, online and right here in our own communities. SAFE's Diversion Facilitator Mikaela Weinstein and Detective Jack Flynn of the Franklin Police Department will unpack what we teach young people about trusted adults, how that framework can be twisted into inappropriate and predatory relationships, and how these exchanges play out on online platforms. Drawing on Mikaela's work with Diversion students and data from the Police Department, they'll share what's happening locally and what parents can do about it. You'll come away with: A young adult's perspective on how these relationships form Which online platforms are most often used to target young people Practical tips for internet and social media monitoring and safety Insight into how prevalent this issue is in our area, drawn from police department data This session is especially valuable for parents of adolescents and younger children, and for teens themselves. I hold a Bachelor’s of Science in Nursing from the University of Vermont, and a Master’s of Science in Nursing from Regis College. As a Franklin High School graduate and long-time resident of Franklin, I’m committed to promoting wellness and safety within the community. I am passionate about improving the well-being of individuals and families across the lifespan, and I strive to make a positive impact through compassionate care and education. Outside of work, I enjoy life with my husband and our two boys.

< Back Kate Gross Director of Grants and Communications kgross@safecoalitionma.org Kate brings 20 years of writing experience to SAFE's communications work, with a background that spans newswriting, international business development, grant writing, and higher education. A former journalist and PhD in English, she has spent her career finding ways to make complex information clear and useful for the people who need it most. Kate first joined SAFE as a volunteer in 2023 on community outreach programs. Becoming Communications Manager in January 2024 was a natural next step in showing up for work she already knew and valued. Kate holds a BA from the University of Michigan, an MA from Boston College, and a PhD from the University of Connecticut, and has trained hundreds of college students in writing, professional communications, and media writing. She has also worked as a grant writer in Dublin, Ireland, where she learned to research new fields quickly and write with clarity. Driven by a belief that our best communications will benefit the communities we serve, Kate seeks to extend SAFE’s mission through its media channels. She loves building systems that help nonprofits communicate consistently and with impact, because her career has always been about making sure the people doing the most important work have the words to show it.
