For International Overdose Awareness Day, SAFE will be holding community vigils in Franklin and Wrentham, and places memorial flag displays across Norfolk county. August 31, 2026 International Overdose Awareness Day Last year, 978 people died from overdose in Massachusetts. International Overdose Awareness Day, established in 2001, is a worldwide event held each year to remember those who have died or suffered because of overdose and to reduce the stigma associated with drug-related deaths. Join us to remember and honor loved ones we've lost. Memorial Flag Displays This year, SAFE will work with community members to place memorial flags across the county. Each flag honors a life lost and stands as a reminder that no one grieves alone. Anyone can help, and all are welcome! < Back Wendy Cohen, MD President I am a family physician and have been providing primary care in Southeastern New England for the past 14 years. I currently practice at, and co-own, Infinity Family Care in Mansfield, MA and live in Foxboro with my husband and two children. Over the years, I have witnessed the effects of opioid addiction on our communities and the practice of medicine, as well as the terrible toll this disease takes on individuals and their families. I am thrilled to have connected with the SAFE Coalition to be able to help educate more of our community and provide better support and resources for my patients and their families. I have a particular interest in increasing awareness about Narcan and improving its availability to any potential bystander to an overdose.

< Back AJ McCormick Executive Assistant amccormick@safecoalitionma.org AJ holds a B.A. and M.A. in English, specializing in Technical Communication and Rhetoric. With experience in nonprofits, higher education, document and graphic design, and journalism, she has a keen understanding of communication challenges and actively studies and practices creating engaging and accessible content. In addition to content creation, AJ has served as project director/co-director for multiple grants and written/co-written/edited multiple awarded grants. She has worked as the Assistant Director for the Center for the Study of the American West and was an English Instructor at West Texas A&M University, teaching first-year writing and advanced composition, technical communication, and introduction to literature, while also teaching faculty how to use different technologies in the classroom. As a researcher, she’s presented on topics ranging from Ecofeminism to Universal Design. Eventually, she decided to leave academia to dedicate her talents towards helping others, and thus found SAFE. AJ was drawn to SAFE’s warm, positive environment, and every day she learns from and is inspired by SAFE’s work. She enjoys studying and creating recipes, birdwatching, and learning.

< Back Reed Reynolds Member Reed Reynolds lives in Wrentham, MA, with his wife and two children. He holds a B.S. in Engineering from the University of Massachusetts Amherst. He has been sober for 15 years and has dedicated much of his spare time to mentoring other men, helping them get sober, and helping them reintegrate into society. Reed has also supported and worked with various nonprofits, including World Help, Teen Challenge, and Hope for Life International. Before joining the board, he volunteered with SAFE coalition, working with teens in a mentorship program. Professionally, Reed is a Global Account Executive at Freshworks, where he brings a wealth of experience in sales, strategy, and business development.
